Google Chrome beta for Mac and Linux debuts

December 09, 2009 2:09 am CST

Google has finally made it. As announced by its CEO Eric Schmid, way back in October 09, Google Chrome, Google’s flagship browser, has released the beta edition for the Mac OS X and Linux operating systems. Though in beta stage, Google enthusiasts can’t wait for the final release to come out and have already begun taking the new browser for a test ride.

Those who have laid their hands on the software gave all applause to Google Chrome for its speed. Like its Windows counterpart, Chrome is extremely light weight and amazingly fast compared to its key competitors - Apple Safari on Mac OS X and Mozilla Firefox on Linux. A section of reviewers feel Mozilla Firefox has a slight edge over Chrome when tested on Ubuntu Linux. But not all is well with the tool yet. Chrome needs to fix few scrollbar and CSS issues that might appear to some users at times.

Alongside this beta, Google has also launched the Chrome extensions gallery page – a place where one can download some of the coolest extensions for the Chrome and make the browser a more productive tool.
